Trailfinders Prostate Cancer UK Senior Clinical Fellowship in Medical Oncology

Opening for Expressions of Interest: 16 March 2026

Introduction

With thanks to the generous support of Trailfinders, we are offering a unique and prestigious opportunity to fund an outstanding clinical leader in the field of prostate cancer medical oncology. We are seeking proposals from ambitious individuals aiming to become a sector‑leading Trailfinders Prostate Cancer UK Professor in Prostate Cancer.

This fellowship provides £2M of funding over 5 years to a clinically qualified individual with a PhD and significant post-doctoral training experience and research independence who is now transitioning to research leadership. Our expectation is that the employing institution will also contribute significant support and financial commitment. The Trailfinders-Prostate Cancer UK award, alongside institutional and leveraged funds, should deliver high quality, high impact outputs which enable the candidate to transition into a professorial level post by the end of that 5-year period.

This fellowship should be underpinned by an ambitious and internationally competitive programme of research, aligned with our research strategy, and ultimately deliver life-changing breakthroughs for prostate cancer patients.

Remit & Eligibility

The Candidate
This is a senior appointment for a clinically qualified individual with a PhD, substantial post‑doctoral experience, and a demonstrable track record of outstanding research achievements and leadership qualities. Candidates can either be at Professorial level or seeking to rapidly transition into a Professorial post within the 5 years of funding. We recognise the varied career paths of clinical researchers and are happy to provide guidance to prospective applicants.

Applicants must work in the field of Medical Oncology.

The Institution
Applications must be submitted jointly by the proposed host institution and the candidate. The host institution must be a recognised UK academic institution and must commit substantial support and financial commitment to the candidate throughout the fellowship, including written confirmation of a permanent Professorial position for the candidate beyond the end of the award.

The Fellowship
The fellowship, alongside institutional and leveraged funding, must cover the candidate’s salary, research staff, support posts, and associated research costs. The proportion of salary funded directly through the fellowship will taper according to the candidate’s seniority. The successful applicant will act as an ambassador globally for prostate cancer research in the UK, and for Prostate Cancer UK, and play a key role in nurturing the next generation of researchers within a positive research culture.
