05 Aug 2025Gladiator Jamie’s giant effort to boost The Big Golf Race
From TV’s toughest challenges to 72 holes in a day, Jamie Christian-Johal – aka ‘Giant’ from BBC One's Gladiators – takes on a marathon golf challenge in honour of his uncle Colin.

For many men, taking on four rounds of golf in a single day would be enough of a test. But for Gladiators star Jamie Christian-Johal, this year’s Big Golf Race was about more than physical endurance – it was personal.
The 6ft 5in bodybuilder from Ilkeston in Derbyshire, better known as ‘Giant’ in the hit TV show, walked over 26 miles and completed 72 holes at Breadsall Priory Golf Club. He chose to dedicate his mammoth fundraising effort towards our work after his uncle Colin received excellent support when he was diagnosed with prostate cancer eight years ago. It was Colin who originally inspired Jamie to pursue a career in bodybuilding after taking him to the gym as a teenager.
“Thankfully, he’s made a full recovery," said Jamie. “But that wouldn’t have been possible without an early diagnosis, which I know is a vital part of Prostate Cancer UK’s work.”
A big reason to go the distance
While he’s no stranger to pushing his body to the limit, Jamie admits this challenge was a different beast. Fuelled by a desire to raise awareness and honour his uncle’s cancer journey, he took on our flagship golf fundraising challenge alongside friends, starting at 7am and finishing just before 9pm.
“Throughout my life, conquering feats of physical endurance is something I’ve been used to – but Prostate Cancer UK’s Big Golf Race posed an entirely different challenge,” Jamie said. “Four rounds of golf in one day was totally exhausting – but totally worth it.
“The Big Golf Race brilliantly combines my love of golf and pushing my limits, all for a fantastic charity that's close to my heart. It was an honour to go the distance on the golf course for my uncle and all the men and their families who are affected by the disease.”
Jamie raised over £1,500 and says the experience brought friends and family together for a cause that's touched all their lives. The group took turns joining him throughout the day, alternating between the Breadsall Priory and Moorland courses to keep things fresh.
We went from tee to green, battling sunshine, fatigue and the occasional slice. But every step was worth it, knowing we’re helping fund lifesaving research and support services.

From tee to green, battling to raise awareness far beyond the fairway
Jamie hasn’t just supported the cause with his clubs – he’s also used his growing platform to spotlight prostate cancer. Whether appearing at the Betfred British Masters, posting about his challenge to thousands of followers on Instagram, or proudly wearing the Prostate Cancer UK ‘Man of Men’ badge, he’s determined to spread the word.
“I did this for my uncle Colin, a true inspiration and a survivor of prostate cancer,” Jamie posted on Instagram. “I’m so proud to be supporting Prostate Cancer UK and raising awareness for men’s health.”

The Big Golf Race: going further for men
Jamie is one of more than 14,000 golfers who've taken on The Big Golf Race since 2020, raising over £4.5 million to help stop men dying from prostate cancer - the most common cancer in men and now the most diagnosed cancer in England.
Whether you're a weekend golfer or ready for a serious endurance test, the challenge offers three formats – 36, 72, or 100 holes – and the chance to make a real difference.
