07 Feb 2025Sir Chris Hoy pledges pedal power as he launches new cancer charity bike ride
Thousands of fundraisers will have the chance to cycle side by side with the six-time Olympic Gold Medallist at the ‘Tour de 4’ ride in Glasgow later this year.

Sir Chris Hoy is set to saddle up alongside thousands of other cyclists for a huge fundraising bike ride supporting cancer charities across the UK.
The Olympic legend has announced plans for his first ‘Tour de 4’ ride, which will begin and end at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome in Glasgow.
We’re proud to be among the group of cancer charities that will benefit from the fundraiser, with up to 5,000 other cyclists set to pedal to the finish line led by one of the nation’s most famous and best-loved sportsmen.
Sir Chris shared the news of his terminal prostate cancer diagnosis last year and has urged men to get on the front foot by checking their risk – before it’s too late.
Now he’s shining a spotlight on Stage 4 cancer and aiming to change perceptions about people who are living with advanced disease.
The ‘Tour de 4’, which takes place on Sunday 7 September, will also raise vital funds and awareness for cancer charities all over the country.

'It’s possible to live well and lead a happy life alongside this devastating diagnosis'
When Sir Chris found out about his prostate cancer, it was already at Stage 4. And by the time he began to experience symptoms, the cancer had spread beyond the prostate and into his bones.
Since revealing his diagnosis was terminal last year, he’s helped to raise awareness about the importance of finding prostate cancer early – when it’s easier to treat.
And he also boosted our campaign at the World Darts Championship, The BIGGER 180, working with tournament sponsors Paddy Power to help raise more than £1 million and get 180,000 men checking their risk.
Sir Chris now wants to bring together as many people as possible who are living with Stage 4 cancer, as well as their friends and families, to take part in the ride and raise money for the cancer charities that mean the most to them.
“It’s really important for me to shine a spotlight on what a Stage 4 cancer diagnosis can look like and demonstrate that it’s possible to live well and lead a happy life alongside this devastating diagnosis,” said Sir Chris, whose father and grandfather also had prostate cancer.
“I’ve been blown away by the support I’ve received since sharing my own diagnosis and I want to personally thank each and every person who has got in touch.
“We’ve also had hundreds and hundreds of people reach out to share their own stories, and so many wanting to take part in Tour de 4 or donate or help in other ways.”
I’m so excited about the potential of this event. I hope we can raise vital funds to help support the research and great work that is being done by so many charities in the UK.

The event will also include a 1km route and static bikes inside the velodrome for those who aren’t able to take part on the road.
