Strengthening Research Through Lived Experience

Involving people affected by prostate cancer in research can bring valuable perspectives that can improve and strengthen many aspects of a research project.
But if you're new to Patient and Public Involvement (PPI), knowing where to start or what meaningful involvement looks like in practice isn't always easy. We've put together this feature to help you get started.
RISE: Our New Research Impact, Support and Engagement scheme

Are you an Early Career Researcher working on a Prostate Cancer UK-funded grant, ready to showcase your research at an influential conference or specialist meeting?
You can apply for up to £2,000 in conference support to present your work, build new connections and support your career development.
Apply by 10 November 2026 to be considered in the first round.
Making Progress 2027: Introducing the Keynote Speaker

We're delighted to announce that Dr Susan Heavey will be the keynote speaker at Making Progress 2027, sharing her career journey, key lessons learned, and practical advice for Early Career researchers.
And this could be your chance to take the stage too! Submit an abstract to share your research through an oral presentation or poster and be part of the conversation at Making Progress 2027. Presentation opportunities are limited, so we encourage early registration.
Research Impact: What We've Achieved
Our Research Impact pages showcase how ideas we fund grow into real‑world advances — from early lab work to clinical trials that bring new diagnostics and treatments closer to helping men. Each month, we spotlight one of these stories.
This month's feature: Turning cancer clues into better treatment choices

Behind every sample, dataset or research finding is a person.
This Black History Month, we're highlighting our latest research impact story, which brings together Patrick Williams' lived experience and research that's working towards more personalised treatment approaches for men with prostate cancer. It's a reminder that behind every breakthrough are the men whose lives it could help change.

Coming soon!
Joint MRC Clinical Research Training Fellowships
We’re offering Clinical Research Training Fellowships in partnership with the Medical Research Council to researchers with a clinical background, who wish to undertake a PhD or reacquire skills after time away from research. The next round opens at the end of October, with a submission deadline of 13 January 2027.
Recently Published Papers
Each week we use our Prostate Cancer UK Researchers LinkedIn to highlight a newly published paper that was supported by our funding. Take a look below at some of last month's featured papers:

A team led by Dr Ashwin Sachdeva at The University of Manchester investigated the effect of treatment with Abiraterone on the risk of fractures in men with prostate cancer.

The Pan Prostate Cancer Group, supported by the Prostate Cancer UK and Movember FASTMAN Centre of Excellence, investigate whether combining genetic and epigenetic tumour data can uncover key drivers of prostate cancer development.

A team led by Prof Shonit Punwani and Dr Eleftheria Panagiotaki at UCL investigated whether fractional intracellular volume (fIC) derived from VERDICT-MRI could support the detection of clinically significant prostate cancer as a non-invasive biomarker.

Supported by our Movember FASTMAN Centre of Excellence, a team led by Professor Noel Clarke, Dr Ashwin Sachdeva, and Dr Omar El-Taji report new findings on cardiovascular risk and treatment intensification from analysis of STAMPEDE clinical trial data.
