Our Research Advisory Committee assess the research proposals submitted to our Research Innovation Awards funding call, then recommend to our Board of Trustees those which offer the greatest potential to benefit men with, or at risk of, prostate cancer.

The membership of the Committee has been carefully selected to ensure a broad range of expertise. The involvement of clinicians/researchers who are independent of the Charity is essential in achieving rigorous and transparent advice.

Committee Members

Daniel is a Professor in Medical Bioinformatics and Genomics at the University of East Anglia, and is also a Group Leader within the Cancer Genetics Team at Norwich Medical School. He has served as a member of our Research Advisory Committee since 2021.

Daniel has over a decade’s experience in applying and developing novel analytic techniques to large-scale ‘omic datasets from human tumour samples, to answer clinically relevant questions in translational cancer research. His research has a particular focus on prostate cancer.

Jay is a Professor of Molecular Oncology and Senior Group Leader at Cancer Research UK’s Cambridge Institute, University of Cambridge. He has served as a member of our Research Advisory Committee since 2021.

Jay’s research focusses on the role of hormones and hormone receptors in cancer. Primarily, he aims to investigate how androgen and estrogen receptors influence gene transcription, and how this contributes to cancer progression and therapy resistance in breast and prostate cancers.

Jonathan is a Professor of Pharmaceutical Nanoscience, within the School of Pharmacy, Queen’s University Belfast. He's also a Director and CTO of BXTA Nanotherpay Ltd, a uro-oncology company established in partnership with BXTAccelyon, with the goal of progressing our lead radiosensitising formulation through clinical trial in patients with locally advanced prostate cancer. He has been a member of our Research Advisory Committee since 2025.

Beyond nanotherapeutics, Jonathan’s research focuses on understanding key biological mechanisms that contribute to treatment resistance, exploring novel therapeutic strategies to overcome these. Commonly, these are alterations within the tumour microenvironment e.g. hypoxia or altered tumour metabolism.

Gerda is a Professor of Tumor Biology at the Medical University of Vienna. She has been a member of our Research Advisory Committee since 2024.

Gerda’s research interest lies primarily in the field of cancer epigenetics, where she investigates the effects of epigenetic pathways on tumour development and progression. Her lab also aims to develop epigenetic diagnostic biomarkers from circulating free tumour DNA in liquid biopsy samples.

Marianna is a Professor and Head of the Urological Research Laboratory, University of Bern. She has been a member of our Research Advisory Committee since 2024.

Marianna’s multidisciplinary research approach aims to investigate the processes that lead to metastasis and cancer progression. Her laboratory focusses on the development and application of research tools and models for precision medicine, including organoid and PDX models of prostate cancer and microvascular on chip chambers for single cell analysis.

Hing is a Professor of Urology and Surgical Oncology as well as the Director of Innovation, Engagement and Enterprise at the University of Glasgow. He's been a member of our Research Advisory Committee since 2025.

Hing is a clinician scientist and has pioneered in the field of translational research aimed at developing new treatment and improving our understanding of treatment-resistant prostate cancer. He's been instrumental in targeting FGF receptor for precision medicine and in the development of a clinically approved inhibitor.

Laure is a Professor in Radiation Biology at the Discipline of Radiation Therapy in the School of Medicine, Trinity College Dublin. She has been a member of our Research Advisory Committee since 2021.

For over a decade, Laure has investigated the selective destruction of cancer cells with ionising radiation, developing novel approaches to improve cell lethality by radiation. Her work focusses primarily on prostate cancer, where she has contributed towards the design of in vitro models, as well as the molecular classification of the disease.

Iain is a Professor in Cell and Molecular Endocrinology and is Research Lead for the Institute of Medical Sciences at the University of Aberdeen. He has been a member of our Research Advisory Committee since 2021.

Iain’s research focusses on the molecular mechanisms of action of the human androgen receptor, investigating its role in prostate cancer progression and resistance to therapy. He aims to translate fundamental discoveries into therapies that can be tested in the clinic.

Julia is a Consultant Clinical Oncologist at The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, and Group Leader at The Institute of Cancer Research. She has been a member of our Research Advisory Committee since 2024.

Julia has been a key figure in several clinical trials investigating the role of radiotherapy in the management and treatment of prostate cancer. Her research focusses on advanced radiotherapy technologies to improve treatment accuracy and patient outcomes.

Prabs is a Group Leader at Barts Cancer Institute, Queen Mary University of London, as well as Turing Fellow at the Alan Turing Institute, London, UK. He's also a Consultant Urological and Robotic Surgeon at University College Hospital. Prabs has been a member of our Research Advisory Committee since 2023.

Prabs’ research explores alternative pre-mRNA splicing and its effects on prostate cancer biology, as well as developing liquid biopsy-derived molecular biomarkers of treatment outcomes. Clinically, he investigates chemo-preventative strategies to reduce low-risk prostate cancer progression, and specialises in the surgical treatment of prostate cancer.

Pasquale is a Senior Clinical Lecturer at Newcastle University and former Head of the Interdisciplinary Group for Translational Research and Clinical trials in GU cancers at the Candiolo Cancer Institute, FPO-IRCCS. He has been a member of our Research Advisory Committee since 2024.

Pasquale is a clinician scientist that specialises in the study of mechanisms/pathways disrupted in prostate cancer, as well as the identification and validation of predictive, prognostic and response biomarkers in genito-urinary malignancies. Since 2023 he is an honorary Consultant in the phase 1 unit (Sir Bobby Robson) at Newcastle Hospitals.

John is a Professor of Bio-organic Chemistry at the University of Sussex, where he also serves as Medicinal Chemistry Head, Sussex Drug Discovery Centre. He has been a member of our Research Advisory Committee since 2023.

John has a wealth of expertise in medicinal and bio-organic chemistry. He has a track record of breakthroughs in synthetic organic chemistry, drug discovery and palladium catalysis.

Clare is Professor of Cellular Pathology and Artificial Intelligence at the University of Oxford and Honorary Consultant in Cellular Pathology with Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. She is a previous Turing Fellow with the Alan Turing Institute (2021-2023) and is chair of the British Association of Urological Pathologists (November 2023 onwards). She has been a member of our Research Advisory Committee since 2024.

Clare’s research focusses on prostate cancer and other genitourinary tract pathology. She has a particular interest in digital pathology and the integration of artificial intelligence and machine learning in the diagnostic pathway.

DE

David is a genitourinary (GU) medical oncologist and Disease Group Leader of the GU medical oncology program at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, currently being integrated with Dana-Farber Cancer Institute at the Harvard Cancer Center (HCC).

David is also an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, where he co-leads the HCC Prostate Cancer Working Group. His research interests include immunotherapy approaches in prostate and kidney cancers, tumour heterogeneity and treatment resistance through the HCC ReGIFT research rapid autopsy program, and treatment controversies in biochemically recurrent prostate cancer, including a novel patient-centered endpoint.

Vincent holds a personal Chair in Urology at the University of Cambridge and is an Honorary Consultant Urologist at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge.

Vincent's research has covered the full spectrum of basic science, translational, clinical, and epidemiological disciplines in prostate cancer. His work has resulted in practice changing innovations in improved disease classification, individualised prognostic tools and risk based active surveillance to refine the management of early prostate cancer. Many of these have now been adopted into national and international guidelines.


GG

Giorgio is urological oncologist at San Raffaele Hospital and Associate Professor at Vita-Salute San Raffaele University.

Giorgio's research spans several key areas in uro-oncology: health outcomes research, prostate cancer research, novel imaging modalities including PSMA PET, and artificial intelligence applications in urology. His work aims to advance the understanding and treatment of prostate cancer through innovative approaches, technologies, and ultimately improving patient outcomes.

Clayton

Aled is Deputy head of the School of Medicine, Cardiff University and a member of the Tissue Microenvironment Group.

Aled's research centres around the study of cell-derived vesicles and their roles in controlling the cancer microenvironment and as potential biomarkers in prostate cancer.

A dedicated panel of Patient and Public Involvement Representatives also form part of our Research Advisory Committee, assisting the Committee in the review of grant applications.
