Yorkshire Spurs join Prostate FC ahead of charity clash
A group of Yorkshire-based Tottenham Hotspur supporters raised more than £11,000 after a charity clash with some club legends – and debuted the Prostate FC shirts in the process.
Yorkshire Spurs, one of the northern branch of the club’s prolific UK fanbase have supported the work of Prostate Cancer UK for many years and pledged to support the charity with their annual football fundraiser, which was played at Tadcaster Albion FC on July 2nd.
The legends, who fielded former skipper Michael Dawson, Pascal Chimbonda, David Howells and Paul McVeigh, also boasted Mark Bellingham, dad of England and Real Madrid star Jude, in their squad. They prevailed 10-0 but the result was secondary on a day to remember.
Paul Pavlou, who turned out for the Yorkshire Spurs side, said: “Arranging a charity match was a great way of raising money for such a worthy cause and to raise over £11,000 was unbelievable.
“Prostate cancer has always been in the thoughts of Spurs fans after Ray Clemence passed from it in 2021, and especially for me as one of my friends has recently been diagnosed with terminal prostate cancer.”
Dawson said: “I’m proud to wear Prostate Cancer UK’s ‘Man of Men’ badge every weekend on Soccer Saturday and this is a cause I care about deeply.
“It affects one in eight men, so its vitally important that we get the message out to fans about the dangers of prostate cancer, and raise funds to try and beat this disease.
“I was delighted to take part when Yorkshire Spurs took on the Spurs Legends in the charity game this summer and it was great to see Yorkshire Spurs become the first team to play in the new Prostate FC shirts.”
