03 Mar 2023WATCH: “I’m not going to fail” Coronation Street star Lisa George takes on March the Month
Coronation Street star and Dancing on Ice contestant, Lisa George is joining our 11,000 steps a day walking challenge, in support of her dad, uncle and grandfather who have all been diagnosed with prostate cancer.
Inspired by how prostate cancer has affected the men she loves, Lisa will join thousands of supporters taking on March the Month across the UK.
Lisa said: “I was aware that prostate cancer was the most common cancer in men but was shocked to learn that it was so high. Prostate cancer has had a huge impact on my own family, which is why I think it’s so important to do what I can to raise awareness and support Prostate Cancer UK.
“Not only was my dad, Ken, diagnosed with the disease, but so were my grandfather and uncle. That’s three people in my immediate family, which is just mind-blowing. Thankfully, all three of them were successfully treated before it got too late. My family were lucky, but unfortunately that isn’t always the outcome.”
Now Lisa is asking her fans and supporters to join her and March the Month.
What is March the Month?
Facing the unpredictable March weather, Lisa will walk 11,000 steps a day to represent the more than 11,000 dads, partners, brothers, grandads and mates who die from prostate cancer every year.
Since first launching in 2018, March the Month has raised more than £3.2 million, with a tireless team of over 19,000 walkers covering more than 2 billion miles. Every pound raised helps fund vital research into better tests, treatment and support for men and their families affected by prostate cancer.
“When I heard about March the Month, I didn’t think twice about signing up”, said Lisa. “Manchester in March can be pretty cold and rainy, but that’s not going to stop me doing my 11,000 steps every day.
“It’s the least I can do to support Prostate Cancer UK and all the families affected by this horrible disease, including my own. I would encourage anyone else to join me to help save and improve the lives of men affected by prostate cancer.”
