Run the Month: Marathon Edition

Run the Month: Marathon Edition is a virtual challenge for runners everywhere of all abilities. Throughout January, run 26.2 miles your way, whether it’s a mile at a time or two half marathons throughout the month. Sign up to Run the Month and raise money to fund lifesaving research and support services for men and their families affected by prostate cancer - the most commonly diagnosed cancer in the UK.

Take on the challenge alone or in a team. Track and share your progress using Strava. Watch the miles build up and the donations rush in. Whether you’ve recently completed Couch to 5K or have dug out your trainers for lockdown, Run the Month this January and help save men’s lives.

    How can I run?

    You can clock up the miles however it suits you. Whether you’re keeping up your normal exercise routine or trying something new, you can make up your 26.2 miles your way. From one mile at a time to two half marathons throughout the month, you decide how to reach the distance. Pound the pavements, use a treadmill or go cross country - the choice is yours.

    When should I run?

    You can run whenever it suits you, but please make sure to stay safe! With dark mornings and evenings, please make sure to plan your routes and wear reflective clothing.

    Who can take part?

    Anyone and everyone. Jog, walk or run the way you want over the course of the month.

    Can we take part as a team?

    Yes, one team, one dream! All you need to do is select the team option on sign up and it will guide you through the process of creating a team or joining an existing one. If you sign up with a team and want to run together, please make sure you follow all government guidelines and stay safe.

    What’s the best way to track my movement?

    This challenge is all about keeping busy and active, so we trust you to be sticking to the distance you challenged yourself to. JustGiving has a great tool to connect your fundraising page to your Strava account so you can share your runs publicly.

    How can I fundraise?

    Once you’ve decided to Run the Month throughout January, there’s loads of great ways to fundraise. Sign up and we'll help you every step of the way and send you top tips to make your challenge a success.

    How much does it cost?

    It’s free to sign up and take part. As for fundraising, we're suggesting that you raise a minimum of £100 - but we'd love you to aim higher.

    I want to wear a Prostate Cancer UK top whilst I take part, where can I get one?

    We have an amazing gift of a branded running top if you hit the £200 fundraising mark. If you absolutely smash it and reach £500 in sponsorship, we'll send you one of our warming running hoodies too. Or you can kit yourself out at our online shop.

    How can I see what other people are doing?

    We’ll be posting regular inspiration to help give you that boost throughout your challenge, and so will your fellow challengers. Check out the story grid on our homepage where you can see what other runners are up to and how they’re racking up the miles. You’ll also be able to keep your eye on those hitting 26.2 miles on the leaderboard to encourage you. Don’t forget to post your #RuntheMonth snaps on social media too - we can’t wait to see how you get on.
