NICE Quality Standard published for prostate cancer

Getting better standards of care into working practice

After extensive campaigning, we’re pleased that in June 2015, the National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE) published a Quality Standard for prostate cancer. The Quality Standard is a reference guide for doctors and hospitals so that they know the five most important things they need to do to achieve quality care for men with prostate cancer.

We produced our own quality standard and submitted this to NICE as a joint consultation response alongside representatives from Macmillan and Tackle, and prostate cancer clinicians and specialist nurses. We’re pleased to see some of the standards we set out in our own Quality Checklist reproduced in NICE’s Quality Standard, and we expect hospitals to deliver care to these standards.

In developing our Quality Checklist, we spoke extensively to people affected by prostate cancer and healthcare professionals, in order to clearly outline the care and support men should expect to receive wherever they live.
