Prostate Cancer Specific Groups

Gym Memberships

PureGym Membership - The Institute of Cancer Research and The Royal Marsden have teamed up with PureGym to offer a free one-year gym membership and a structured exercise programme for eligible men on hormone therapy.

General Exercise Groups

Walking Groups

Move Against Cancer- Free monthly walks for anyone impacted by cancer. People are welcome to walk, run, cheer or even just join for a coffee.

Nordic Walks- Nordic walking across the country. Led by professional qualified instructors and open to all abilities.

parkrun- A free, community event where you can walk, jog, run, volunteer or spectate. parkrun is 5k and takes place every Saturday morning.

Ramblers - Walking groups across the UK

Walking Football

The Walking Football Association - Use the club finder to find a walking football team near you.

Gardening

RHS -  Community garden groups all over the country through The Royal Horticulture Society.

Garden Organic - Community gardening groups that promote organic growing and composting, citizen science and research, and seed conservation.

Prostate Cancer Specific

Nuffield Health - Several NHS trusts offer a free 24-week exercise programme for men undergoing hormone therapy as part of their prostate cancer treatment. 

Prostate Pedallers - A cycling group for men with prostate cancer, run by men with prostate cancer.

Prostate Warriors - Free fitness sessions for men with prostate cancer (London).

General Exercise Groups

Run Together - A national programme from England Athletics that offers fun, friendly, safe and inclusive running opportunities for people of all ages and abilities 

Walking Tennis - A slower, less physically-demanding version of the traditional game.

Bounce Back Exercise - Exercise support specifically designed for people who have been diagnosed with a long-term health condition. These are paid sessions either online or they also offer in-person classes around Watford, England.

Exercise Groups for Black Men

Table Tennis - Free table tennis for Black men over 50 organised by the Over 50s Black Men Forum.

The Black Men's Consortium - Free weight management, exercise and diet course for Black men (London).

Strength Silver - Exercise and wellness for Black men over 50 (paid, London).

Cancer Don't Let it Win - CDLIW runs support groups for Black men and a gym specifically for men, with or recovering from, prostate cancer (London).

Prostate FFIT - A 12 week football programme for men with prostate cancer.

Jog Scotland - Fun, friendly jogging groups for all levels.

General Exercise Groups

Move More - Macmillan works in partnership with local councils, physical activity providers and health and social care trusts all over Northern Ireland to provide the support that people living with cancer need to improve their fitness. Register you interest here.  

Walk NI - Walking groups throughout Northern Ireland.

The Exercise Clinic - An online hub with exercise videos, news and updates for men with prostate cancer.

10 Today - Audio-only guided physical activity for older people by the BBC. Sessions are free and are about 10-15 minutes, allowing you to get a little movement in to your day if you don't want to set up or watch a video.

NHS Home Exercise - A wide range of free home exercises explained very clearly through text and photos, no audio or video. 

Strengthening Exercises - From the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists. These are physio-approved, accessible activities that require little space and no expensive equipment or fancy clothing. They even have some exercises that can be performed at an outdoor gym.

We Are Undefeatable - Free tailored exercise programmes that can be completed anywhere and at anytime, made specifically for people with long-term health conditions.

Bounce Back Exercise - Exercise support specifically designed for people who have been diagnosed with a long-term health condition. These are paid sessions either online or they also offer in-person classes around Watford, England.

Active and Standing Programmes - Video workouts mainly performed standing with a full-body focus. Expect some cardio (increased heart rate and breathing more heavily) and a good focus on building strength and balance while standing. Some of these are up to 20-30 minutes.

Gentle and Seated Programmes - Video workouts mainly performed seated. These tend to be shorter in duration (around 10 minutes), less aerobic, with a focus on gentle stretches, upper body and core strength.
