Peer Support volunteers
Our One-to-One Peer Support Service connects men affected by prostate cancer and their loved ones to trained volunteers who understand what they’re going through because they’ve been there themselves. Our volunteers use their own experiences to offer empathy, support and a listening ear to those who need it most.
Providing a comforting presence over the phone, our volunteers talk regularly and openly about their own journey with prostate cancer, from being diagnosed, going through treatment, coping with side effects, and managing the emotional ups and downs of living with prostate cancer. Their stories and insights help people feel more informed and in control of their situation at what can be a challenging time.
Support for Black men
In line with our Black Health Equity strategy, our Black Men’s One-to-One Support Service was created with Black men for Black men affected by prostate cancer.
The service allows those most at risk to talk to someone who shares similar experiences and background, and who knows what this journey can feel like physically, emotionally, and culturally.
They’re here to listen, share their story, and help you feel confident, supported, and reassured that you don’t have to navigate prostate cancer alone.
Volunteer spotlight
For volunteers like Keith, sharing their prostate cancer journey is a rewarding and a positive way to support those who need it.
I was diagnosed at age 67 with localised prostate cancer. I consider myself very fortunate to have happened upon the Prostate Cancer UK website, which offered information resulting in my being able to make informed decisions about my cancer treatment. I like to look forward, not back, and like to think that I took it in my stride. I now want to use my experiences to help men who find themselves in a similar situation to mine.
