Become a Peer Support volunteer
Our One-to-One Peer Support service is all about connecting people affected by prostate cancer with someone who truly understands what they're going through. As a volunteer, you’ll use your own experiences to offer empathy, support, and a listening ear to those who need it most. Helping them feel more confident and empowered during a challenging time.
What You'll Do as a Peer Support Volunteer:
- Offer Support: Provide a comforting presence over the phone to people affected by prostate cancer.
- Share Your Experience: Talk openly about your own journey with prostate cancer, including treatment, managing side effects, and the emotional impact.
- Listen and Care: Actively listen and offer the emotional support that only someone who’s been there can provide.
- Guide to Resources: Direct people to our Specialist Nurse service or other helpful resources for additional advice.

What We’re Looking For:
- Personal Experience: You’ve been directly affected by prostate cancer, either as someone diagnosed or as a partner. To make sure you're ready, it should be at least 12 months since your primary treatment or bereavement.
- Empathy and Listening Skills: You’re a great listener, empathetic, and approach conversations with a non-judgmental mindset.
- Understanding of Boundaries: You recognise the importance of boundaries and self-care, both for yourself and those you support.
- Commitment to Guidelines: You’re able to follow Prostate Cancer UK’s policies, including safeguarding and data protection.
