Supporter Story
In memory of Joe’s dad, Stephen, who passed away from prostate cancer in 2023, Joe and his wife Jules took on a remarkable challenge - cycling 950 miles from Rotterdam to Alpe d’Huez.
Before Stephen passed, Joe and his twin brother, Sam, had planned to scatter some of their dad’s ashes at the top of Alpe d’Huez. Heartbreakingly, the following year Sam was diagnosed with brain cancer, and the brothers were never able to complete the journey together.
This summer, Joe and Jules fulfilled that promise - reaching the summit of Alpe d’Huez and scattering both Stephen’s and Sam’s ashes. It was an emotional and proud moment, honouring two lives and completing the ride that Joe and Sam had always dreamed of doing together.
Stuck in first gear?
Our team is full of tips on how to get started, from routes to fundraising hacks. Drop us an email at [email protected] or give us a call on 0203 310 7034 and we’ll get you shifting gears in no time!
Depending on your cycling quest, your kit list might vary. Aim to snag the basics, like:
- A helmet to keep your head safe, lights for the dark, and high-vis gear to make sure you're seen
- Comfy biking attire - think padded shorts for the long haul and a windbreaker jacket
- The DIY fix-it kit: a multi-tool, pump, and spare tubes just in case
- Snacks and hydration to fuel your ride from start to finish.
You should receive an email to claim your jersey after you’ve had your first donations. And if you raise over £500 you’ll also be eligible for a snazzy bespoke coloured jersey. We'll have you pedalling off in a cool, short-sleeved, full-zip, Prostate Cancer UK branded jersey in no time.
Planning a group jaunt? It's vital to look into insurance and make sure your event ticks all the safety boxes as your event wouldn’t be covered by Prostate Cancer UK’s public liability insurance – British Cycling has more information for organising your cycling challenge safely.
You bet your bottom bracket! We can support you with a letter of authority, logo access, press release templates and lots more. Register your ride with us to discover all the ways we can help put your pedal-powered challenge on the map.
