Paul and James' Story

In 2021, when Paul visited his doctor for an ankle injury, prostate cancer was the last thing on his mind. He had a blood test for something unrelated - a few weeks later he was given the news he had prostate cancer.

“I had no idea before that. No symptoms, nothing. It was just chance that they found it.”

After further investigation, Paul learned his cancer was locally advanced. Thankfully, it hadn’t spread and could be treated. In the circumstances, he says, it was the best news he could have hoped for.

Paul’s chance diagnosis led his son James to get a PSA test. Shockingly, James was diagnosed with prostate cancer too. After surgery, doctors found that without treatment, James would have had less than two years to live.

Without routine screening for the vast majority of men, men like Paul and James find out they have prostate cancer by chance. This must change.
