Birmingham LGBT Centre and METRO Walnut London
Meet the Gay Healthy Living Centre in Birmingham and METRO in Greenwich
Gay Healthy Living Centre in Birmingham and METRO in Greenwich - local community organisations offering comprehensive services for gay, lesbian and bisexual people.
The big idea
To develop new prostate cancer support groups for gay and bisexual men and transgender women. These support groups aim to provide an environment for people affected by prostate cancer, to share common issues and experiences, and provide an environment where they can talk frankly about the some of their more intimate concerns, particularly around their sex lives.
Finding out what works
We know there is a demand for specialist support groups for gay and bisexual men and transgender women and these groups are helping meet this need.
Both organisations are collecting user feedback and outcome measures. The feedback already received from men attending the group points towards positive outcomes.
Many of the men talk about feeling relaxed, welcome and supported. Some men are already showing signs of having benefitted and gained knowledge from speaking with others about their experiences.
