Cycle the path of the pros on a ride to save men's lives

For the first time ever, the Grand Depart Classic is your chance to cycle the first three stages of the Tour de France - before the pros even touch the tarmac.

Choose your stage, or take on multiple stages in a true Grand Depart. However far you go, you’ll follow the same roads as the world’s best riders, all while raising money to help save men’s lives.

Right now, every year, 12,000 men still die from prostate cancer. By taking part, you’ll help fund research into better, more accurate tests, bringing us closer to a screening programme that could catch prostate cancer earlier, when it’s easier to treat.

A once-in-a-lifetime cycling adventure

For the first time, the Tour will be visiting Scotland, England, and Wales - following some of the most scenic routes the UK has to offer.

Distance: 185km
Elevation: around 2,000m of climbing
Ride day: Friday 25 June 2027

The legendary first road stage of the Tour de France, setting off against the glorious backdrop of Scotland’s Capital. Heading through the gently undulating landscape and across the Scottish borders, you’re in for some incredible views.

The flattest of the stages, with one categorised climb, the Cote de Melrose. The perfect challenge of distance, scenery and elevation.

Sign up to cycle Stage 1: Edinburgh to Carlisle

Distance: 223km
Elevation: over 2,800m of climbing
Ride day: Saturday 26 June 2027

The second stage of the Tour de France will roll through the idyllic Lake District. Explore the heart of the lakes on wheels, through Thirlmere, Grasmere and Windermere.

Another scenic route with the more challenging terrain typical of Cumbria - take on 5 categorised climbs, including the Cote de Jubilee Tower and the Cote de Belmont. A very ‘King of the Mountains’ stage, with a very welcome, fast and flat descent into Liverpool to cross the finish line.

Register to ride Stage 2: Keswick to Liverpool

Distance: 223km
Elevation: over 3,000m of climbing
Ride day: Sunday 27 June 2027

Wales is home to some of the most stunning views - and the most mountainous terrain! The third, and final, stage of this year's Grand Depart Classic gives you 80km to settle into the saddle, before the climbs begin.

With eight categorised climbs, this is the route for anyone who enjoys the elevation - and the descent even more! The terrain keeps you on your toes with varied climbs, like the long Cote d’Epynt and the punchy Cote de Caerffili and Code de Rhigos both in the final 12km. A true test of the pedals!

FAQs

Cycling any stage of the Tour de France is challenging - but absolutely achievable with the right training. Many of our Grand Depart Classic riders hadn’t been on a bike since childhood and still crossed the finish line with a huge sense of achievement.

You’ll have access to our training plans, bespoke support from our training partner, RunningWithUs, and the invaluable advice of past riders through access to our exclusive cycling communities.

You'll need to cycle at a speed of around 12 mph to successfully complete a stage. Riders set off at approximately 7am, and have until around 6pm to cross the finish line.

You’ll be fully supported in the lead up to your ride. Our expert coaching partners, RunningWithUs provide expert training plans and advice on a wide range of topics from getting started, ride kit, bike handling, group riding, strength and conditioning, nutrition and much more. You'll also be able to speak to the coaches at RunningWithUs throughout your training to ensure you are fully fit on ride day.

We recommend using a road bike for the best combination of speed, style and efficiency but you’re welcome to take part on any roadworthy bike you’re comfortable riding.

Yes — e-bikes are welcome.

Just keep in mind that you’ll need to manage your battery for the day, as we can’t guarantee charging points along the route.

All riders must be 18 or older on the day of the ride.

If you have any questions, feel free to get in touch with the team at [email protected].

The Grand Départ Classic takes place on open roads.

We carefully plan the route to avoid busier sections where possible, while staying as true as we can to the official Tour de France route.

This is a sportive-style event, meaning you can ride at your own pace throughout the day.

There’s no set grouping, you’re free to enjoy the ride in a way that works for you.

You’ll need to arrange your own transport to the start.

If you’re taking part in a multi-stage ride, transport between stages is included.

If you’re unsure about transporting your bike, get in touch or you can hire a bike through our partner, Just Pedal, for an additional fee.

Absolutely! Teams are very welcome on the Grand Depart Classic. Each person will need to register individually, but you can contact us with your team details and we’ll link you together.

Absolutely! We appreciate that teams signing up may wish to fundraise collectively. Just drop our team an email and we can share all the information you need to fundraise together.

Yes — our Day Rider option is perfect if you’re short on time or live locally.

You’ll pay a £125 registration fee and commit to raising £500.

Please note: accommodation, transport, and meals (outside of rest stops and lunch) aren’t included with this option. If you have any questions, our team is happy to help.
