Where your donations go: funding prostate cancer research
Since 2020, The Big Golf Race has raised over £4.5 million - helping us fund vital work that brings us closer to a future where no man dies from prostate cancer.
Your fundraising supports:
- Ground-breaking research. Your donations enable us to fund pioneering studies that focus on early diagnosis, better treatments and potential cures. Some of the exciting research we fund looks at creating new tests to detect prostate cancer earlier and more accurately.
- Support services. Your fundraising sustains life-changing support services, like our Specialist Nurses, who provide information and support to men and their families when they need it most.
- Awareness campaigns: Events like The Big Golf Race help to boost awareness of prostate cancer in golf clubs and among the friends and family of everyone who takes part - encouraging more men to understand their risk and seek early advice, which can save lives.
Prostate cancer research: why your support matters
In the UK, prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men. Yet awareness and early detection remain alarmingly low.
Currently, 1 in 8 men will be diagnosed with the disease - and your risk is higher if you're Black or if you have a family history. Without a national screening programme, only half of prostate cancers are detected early enough for effective treatment.
That’s why we’re funding TRANSFORM, the biggest prostate cancer screening trial in over 20 years. With no national screening programme in place, the TRANSFORM trial aims to provide the definitive evidence we need to change that.
Bringing together the UK’s leading researchers with backing from the NHS and the Government, this £42 million research project will help identify the best screening methods to catch prostate cancer early while reducing unnecessary treatments. The findings could pave the way for a national screening programme, potentially saving thousands of men's lives every year.

Prostate cancer facts every golfer should know
Early detection saves lives - but barriers like stigma, lack of awareness and limited testing options mean many men don’t get diagnosed until it’s too late.
Here are some key facts:
- Over 12,000 men in the UK die from prostate cancer each year - that’s more than 30 every day.
- But early diagnosis can be lifesaving - 90% of men survive prostate cancer for 10 years or more, if caught early.
- Research is vital to making new screening tests available and accessible to all men at risk.
The funds you raise will directly contribute to raising awareness and improving early detection rates.
