Walking football

When you look at the statistics, prostate cancer exists in every walking football team in the UK; 1 in 8 men get prostate cancer, and 83% of men don't know their risk. We're calling on teams across the UK to raise funds through their love of the beautiful (walking) game and awareness of a disease killing one man every 45 minutes.

How you can get involved

If you play walking football there are lots of ways to get involved in raising money and awareness of the most common cancer in men.

Fundraising

  • Hold a tournament or festival - ask for a small donation to take part and use our top tips below to help you organise the day
  • Football marathon - how many games can you get played in a morning, afternoon or entire day?
  • Host a match day collection - if you've got a big event or competition coming up, why not engage the community with a collection
  • Organise a raffle or auction for your teammates and other teams

Awareness

  • Book an awareness talk from a trained speaker for your team, at a time that suits you
  • Order literature to hand out at training, matches and competitions
  • Purchase our Man of Men pin badges for your team
  • Request to use our 'supporting logo' for web, print and even your team's kit

5 top tips for organising a walking football tournament or festival

  1. Pick a date, find a suitable venue and book it as soon as possible - pitches tend to get booked up far in advance, but do shop around to find the most cost effective.
  2. Start promoting your event - tell friends, family and colleagues through whatever means you can - social media, email and posters are a great start.
  3. Speak to local venues for a post-match celebration event - bars and restaurants make a perfect spot for a post-game knees up, and will often be more than happy to put on some freebies if it means extra footfall.
  4. Add in a post-event raffle and speak to local businesses for potential prizes. There are, however, a number of regulations that you need to be aware of - find out more at gamblingcommission.gov.uk
  5. Confirm the schedule of play, send to the teams, and prepare for a day of (friendly) competition.

Find a club

In October 2017 we were thrilled to announce a five year partnership with the Walking Football Association, allowing us a great opportunity to work side by side with the game’s national governing body to raise awareness and funds in the fight against prostate cancer.

Not only is the WFA the governing body of walking football in the UK, it also has a vast network of clubs nationwide for aspiring and current players to join. Find your nearest club today and read about our partnership.
