What is a support group?

Local support groups are a fantastic source of informal information and support for men with prostate cancer and their families. Through these groups you can come together and talk about your prostate cancer journey in a safe space, with men going through similar experiences. They’re a way of getting support for yourself, as well as giving something back to the prostate cancer community. They can also help you to build a trusted local support network locally, through individual friendships.

Prostate Cancer UK don’t operate or work directly with any support groups in the UK. Tackle Prostate Cancer are a national charity providing direct support to these groups, and offering membership to their leaders. Since March 2023, Prostate Cancer UK have worked in partnership with Tackle to ensure that support groups in the UK work well alongside the information and support services we offer, and we’re proud to endorse Tackle’s offer to support groups.

Online support groups

Some men might want to access group support from the comfort of their own home, or focused only on a specific topic. This is why we’ve started to set up online support groups, starting with active surveillance.

Active surveillance online support group

We run a monthly group chat from men who are on active surveillance and want to share experiences and ask questions to other men on the same treatment. The group chat happens on the second Tuesday of each month from 7–8 pm.

The group meets over Zoom. You don’t necessarily need this software installed though; it should just work through your usual web browser.
