Karen Bonner

Karen is a Trustee with a deep personal connection to the cause, after over a decade of service to the charity as a volunteer following her father’s death in 2010. She has over 30 years of nursing experience in primary, secondary and tertiary care, including working in urology at Guy’s, St Thomas’ and Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. She is currently the Regional Chief Nurse for London and a Fellow of the Queens Nursing Institute for Community Nursing.

She is also actively involved in national advisory boards, including NHS England’s Transforming People Services and the National Institute for Healthcare Research. Her mission is to raise awareness in underserved communities, especially among Black men, and to use her professional platform to push for earlier diagnosis and better outcomes. Her approach is focused not only on patients, but on their families, homes and communities. She chairs initiatives to improve prostate cancer information for Black communities and provides insight as a member of our Black Men's Health Advisory Group.

Her passion for tackling health disparities led to her recognition by the Nursing Times in 2019 and the Health Service Journal as one of the 50 most influential Black, Asian, and minority ethnic individuals in health from 2021 to 2024. She was awarded an MBE in 2024 in recognition of her contribution to nursing.
