18 Dec 2025From the course to the clubhouse: another great year for our golfing community
2025 is coming to an end and what a year of golf fundraising it’s been. From the Big Golf Race to our first Black community golf day – we’ve had phenomenal support from clubs and players all around the country.
Once again, we’ve actively engaged with so many golf clubs across the UK this year. Their members, casual players and staff continued to raise vital awareness and funds by having those lifesaving conversations in their clubhouses and on golf courses. There’s been so much going on, but here are a few of our highlights from 2025.
Thousands turn out for the Big Golf Race
The Big Golf Race made a triumphant return and saw golfers going the distance on the course once again. Around 3,000 people took part this year, and every single swing had a story behind it – a story of why, and what led to the decision to take on this mammoth challenge. One of the 3,000 was Mark Taylor.
After being diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2022, Mark decided that he wanted to do something to raise money for Prostate Cancer UK. After raising £48,000 in 2024, by taking part in the Big Golf Race with some mates at Tandridge Golf Club, he wanted to go one better. So, on 23 June this year, he and a group of pals played an incredible 100 holes in one day, with the aim of raising £100,000.
The guys took on the mega challenge and completed 100 holes at the beautiful Beaconsfield Golf Club, smashing their target and raising over £200,000 for Prostate Cancer UK. It was an incredible day. Not only did Mark and his mates raise a massive amount of money, but they continued to raise vital awareness around prostate cancer too.
Early diagnosis and treatment can make a huge difference to the eventual outcome.
First Black community golf day is a sell-out success
Another milestone we reached this year was our first Black community golf day in September, which raised awareness of the heightened risk of prostate cancer in Black men. Our Black Health Equity Team worked in partnership with Ray Nyabola, founder of Black British Golfers, and Mark Henry, Chair of the African Caribbean Golf Society, to organise the sol-out event, which took place at the Addington Golf Club.
Attendees enjoyed a day of golf, camaraderie and purpose – whilst raising awareness of a disease that disproportionately affects Black men. Players included Premier League legend Andy Cole, and radio and television presenter, DJ Spoony.
Ray Nyabola told us why raising awareness in the Black community is so important:
This event proves the power of golf beyond the fairways. The game has always been about community, and we showed how it can also be a catalyst for life-saving conversations. We’re proud to stand alongside Prostate Cancer UK to drive awareness where it’s most needed.
Thanks again to the brilliant John Brownless
2025 was another big year for John Brownless – keen golfer and long-time supporter of Prostate Cancer UK. Diagnosed in 2004, John has now supported us for over 10 years. He continues to raise vital awareness of prostate cancer amongst his golfing pals through his annual events – including golf days in Spain and the UK.
John’s fundraising total, since he started supporting the charity, surpassed the £200,000 mark in 2025. This incredible achievement is testament to all his hard work organising events and supporting us year on year.
Every donation, every conversation, every step along the way reminded me how powerful people can be when they pull together. I’m proud, grateful, and humbled that our efforts will give more men the chance to bring us closer to better screening, treatments and, ultimately a cure.
What an effort! We’re so grateful to John, and our entire golfing community, for helping us raise over £2 million through golf for the third year running. It’s been an incredible year, and we can’t wait to see what 2026 brings.
