Club and group fundraising

How to support Prostate Cancer UK as a Freemason, Rotarian, or Buffalo.

In the UK, 1 in 8 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime. There isn’t a club or group in the country that's unaffected by this disease.

The facts

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men and kills one man every 45 minutes in the UK. Sadly, there isn’t a lodge in the country that doesn’t have a personal link to prostate cancer. That’s why it’s important for brethren everywhere to understand what prostate cancer is and to know their risk.

1 in 8 men will get prostate cancer in the UK, with older men, men with a family history of prostate or breast cancer and black men being more at risk.

If anyone in your lodge or group is concerned about prostate cancer or prostate problems we can help. We provide a range of information and support so you can choose the services that work for you. All our services are open to men, their family and their friends.

How can your club get involved?

The support of groups like the Freemasons, Rotarians, Buffaloes and many more helps Prostate Cancer UK to invest in research to improve treatment, diagnosis, and care, all while supporting those affected by prostate cancer right now.

There are many members already working to raise awareness in, and beyond, their provinces and if you’re keen to join in, there are lots of ways to do it!

Community collections:

  • We can send you a collection tin, letter of authority, and any fundraising materials you need. Get in touch to order materials.

Hosting a pub quiz, raffle, or charity night:

  • Raise awareness and funds while spending time with your friends. What’s not to like?

Taking on a sponsored walk or cycle:

  • You set the date and the distance, and we’ll be with you every step or pedal of the way.

Raising awareness

By sharing our 30-second risk checker at one of your meetings, in a newsletter, or just mentioning it to your friends, you could save a brother’s life. The earlier it’s diagnosed, the easier it is to treat

"I wanted to choose a charity that our members could relate to […] and Prostate Cancer [UK] was the ideal choice."
Steve James Previous National President of the 41 Club, 57

Steve James and the 41 Club

When Steve James was diagnosed with an enlarged prostate, he wanted to understand more about prostate health. At a 41 Club meeting, he heard how prostate cancer often shows no early symptoms and can be hard to detect. He knew it was an issue that would matter to his fellow members.

As National President of the 41 Club, Steve chose Prostate Cancer UK and Prostate Cymru as the club’s Charities of the Year.

Over the year, Steve and his clubmates held a sponsored walk, a summer ball, a Six Nations Rugby Dinner and other events across the country. Alongside raising funds, Steve also helped spread awareness and encouraged more men to learn about their risk.

Together, Steve and the 41 Club raised over £72,000. That support is helping to fund research, improve diagnosis and treatment, and provide services like our Specialist Nurses for men and their families.
