2015 Prostate Cancer UK Travelling Prize Fellowships

The application submission deadline is 12pm (noon) on Monday 7 December 2015

Historically, our Training & Learning Development Awards have focused on supporting researchers at the beginning of their careers (PhD studentships) and those who, after several post doctoral research positions are ready to become independent researchers leading their own groups (Career Development Fellowships). However, we believe that there are significant benefits in providing Fellowship funding for extremely promising researchers (who have up to 2 years experience since the date of their PhD viva).

This year, with funding from The Mike Gooley TrailFinders Charity and The Movember Foundation, we're launching our first ever call for Prize Fellowships.

A Prize Fellowship offers funding for up to 4 years and must include a period of at least 6 months outside of the Fellows' host institution (either elsewhere in the UK, or abroad).

Awards can be for up to £250K if based entirely within the UK, or up to £300K if including a placement at one or more institution outside the UK.

Our aim is that these Fellowships will support the most outstanding researchers to begin to develop their own research programme, expand their research horizons and develop scientific independence whilst gaining vital experience from working with the best researchers in the UK and overseas. This Fellowship should help accelerate the prospective Fellow’s career trajectory, making them more competitive for more senior Fellowships, and ultimately ensuring that they make the biggest difference for men affected by prostate cancer as quickly as possible.

Please see the guidance notes for further details on eligibility and the application process.

2015 Movember Foundation PhD Studentships in Bioinformatics

This call is now closed.

This year, with funding from the Movember Foundation, we will be using our PhD scheme to address a clear gap that we believe is likely to limit progress in prostate cancer in the coming years. That area is bioinformatics.  We believe that a significant gap already exists with an insufficient number of researchers with expertise in both statistics/data analysis and prostate cancer.

The scheme is open only to applicants proposing to train a bioinformatician to PhD level with a project that aligns with our new research strategy.

Studentships will be for either three or four years and usually provide funds for a tax-free stipend, fees, research expenses and travel. It is not necessary to have identified a student at the application stage.

We will also consider bids for multiple prostate cancer-focussed PhDs from institutions already running large scale PhD schemes in bioinformatics, or that will allow institutions to set up new programmes with a cohort of prostate cancer focussed students.

Please see the guidance notes for further details on eligibility and the application process.
