Change and Innovators Programme
Participating in Prostate Cancer UK's improvement programme was invaluable and the personal leadership training has been of particular help. I hope to build on what I have gained and would recommend them to anyone who is keen to learn more or develop services for men with prostate cancer.
Why are our improvement programmes important for clinicians?
We recognise the NHS is currently under a lot of pressure and understand how demoralising and frustrating this can be for clinicians who want to continue to deliver best practice in an ever-changing and increasingly complex healthcare environment.
Our sector-leading improvement programmes provide a supportive and empowering environment for clinicians at different stages of their career with a passion for delivering tangible improvements within the sector. We’ve worked with over 150 clinicians across the prostate cancer pathway and improved care for more than 40,000 men across the UK.
What is the Change and Innovators Programme?
Our 20-week programme will help anyone working in and alongside the prostate cancer pathway to develop and hone in on their leaderships skills to become changemakers and innovators. This includes clinicians as well as those who aren’t clinically based but are working towards change or improvement in prostate cancer care.

What does the programme involve?
We’ve developed a flexible, hybrid programme model that blends both virtual and in person delivery, while still fostering a collaborative and positive learning environment. We’ll support you from the initial planning stages of your project, right through to implementation and review. Our expert programme managers have extensive experience in supporting clinicians working in our complex and fragmented health service, and we know how vital you are to driving improvement.

- Mobilising and communicating improvement
- Evaluating and measuring impact
- Building sustainable change
As part of the programme, you’ll develop skills and knowledge in influencing, critical thinking, problem solving, articulating your vision for change and above all, leadership skills needed to drive change.
As a participant of our Change and Innovators programme, you’ll receive:
- Training on change leadership, system leadership, improvement science and implementing an improvement project.
- Virtual improvement group meetings that allow time to connect with peers.
- One to one support around your improvement ambitions and leadership development.
- Coaching and peer-based mentoring
Who is the programme for?
This programme is open to all level clinicians or those working in and alongside the prostate cancer pathway in the UK. We encourage applications from Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and any trusts struggling currently to achieve national targets for diagnosis and treatment.
Key dates
- Welcome session (virtual) – Tuesday 23 May 2023, 7- 9pm
- Module 1 (virtual) – Tuesday 6 June 2023, 9-12noon
- Module 2 (virtual) – Wednesday 14 June 2023, 9-12noon
- Module 3 (face to face) – Thursday 29 June 2023, 10-4pm - This event will be held at the Imperial War Museum, London
- Module 4 (virtual) – Tuesday 3 October 2023, 9-12noon

Programme Expenses
Reasonable travel will be expensed for attending module 3, further details will be provided once you’ve been successfully accepted onto the programme.
Food and refreshments will also be provided throughout module 3.
