What is the Sexual support service?

Our Sexual support service is an opportunity for you or your partner to talk with one of our Specialist Nurses about your sexuality and your sex life after prostate cancer treatment. You can discuss how treatment affects your sexuality and relationships, and suggest treatments or coping strategies.

All of our Specialist Nurses are female, but they're highly skilled and experienced in discussing sensitive topics, and will help make you feel comfortable.

Please note, the person who wants to use the service must request the call themselves. We can't accept requests made on behalf of someone else.

The nurse I spoke with was fully informed, gave clear information in response to all of my questions and on how to take my condition forward. She had a sense of humour and was empathetic and supportive throughout. It was an excellent interaction.

What's the goal?

  • To give men and their partners time to talk openly about the changes to their sexuality and any sexual difficulties since prostate cancer treatment.
  • To help people understand their own or their partner’s options and adjustments for a fulfilling sexual relationship (for example, how to have sex in different ways, sex toys that can be used).
  • To discuss treatments for erectile dysfunction, how to use them and the impact on relationships.
  • To explore potential solutions to these issues and give guidance tailored to the service user's needs. Signposting to other services could be helpful, like psychosexual counselling.

How do I sign up?

It's easy - just call our Specialist Nurses on 0800 074 8383 and ask for any of the Sexual support service nurses, or fill in our form and a nurse will call you back at a time that suits you.

Please note, we're unable to offer this service to men outside the UK.

Disclaimer: We are registered nurses with a specialist interest in helping men deal with the sexual side effects of treatment. We are not psychosexual counsellors.

The nurse was understanding, sympathetic and full of the best knowledge about how to treat my condition and options for recovering sexual function. I felt I was in the hands of a real expert who had the latest medical thinking at her fingertips. She was incredibly kind and considerate, too.
