Professor Catharine West
Catharine is Professor Emerita of Radiation Biology at the University of Manchester.
Her career spans 43 years in cancer research from PhD studies at the Institute of Cancer Research in Sutton, postdoctoral work at the University of Rochester Cancer Centre in upstate New York to the Christie Hospital in Manchester. Her research focuses on radiotherapy and using biology to individualise treatments. She was awarded an Honorary Fellowship of the Royal College of Radiologists and received a lifetime achievement award from the European Society for Radiotherapy and Oncology.
Catharine has been a member of many national and international committees, obtained >£40M in grant funding and published over 300 papers. In her retirement she is continuing her commitment to teaching radiobiology to trainee doctors in India.
She is married with three children and three grandchildren.
