Vice Chair: Professor Paul M Stewart

Paul joined Prostate Cancer UK as a trustee and Chair of its Board Research Committee in September 2021. He was appointed Vice Chair in April 2024.
Having completed almost 15 years of Executive leadership across Medical Schools and Health Faculties in Birmingham and Leeds, Professor Paul Stewart is Professor of Medicine (Emeritus) at the University of Leeds. He served for 40 years in the NHS as a Consultant Endocrinologist, 30 years of which were as an NHS Consultant but employed through Universities as a Clinical Academic. His combined clinical and research work has uncovered new discoveries in hypertension, obesity, ageing and polycystic ovary syndrome.
Paul has had key leadership roles across specialist societies, health partnerships, research funders and medical charities, including Acting President and member of Council of the Academy of Medical Sciences, and Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism.
He remains passionate about nurturing and supporting early research careers, and has recently stepped down as Chair of the UK-wide Clinical Academic Training Forum.
Paul was born in Yorkshire and remains an ardent supporter of Yorkshire cricket and Leeds United. A very poor golfer he is a keen walker and gardener. He loves to travel and spend time with his grandchildren and wider family.
Paul was awarded a CBE in the 2025 King’s New Year’s Honours List for services to medical science.
