Sign the petition: stand with One Cancer Voice to tell the government they must urgently fund the cancer workforce

This October we stand with One Cancer Voice to ask the Government to invest urgently in the NHS cancer workforce in the autumn Spending Review.

Covid-19 exposed the terrible strain the NHS cancer workforce has been under for years. This is now the greatest threat facing the NHS. Without urgent investment, shortages in the cancer care workforce are set to get worse.

That’s why we’re joining 50 other cancer charities to call on the Government to use the Spending Review to fund the additional provision of NHS staff to diagnose, treat and care for cancer patients.

Unless the Government acts now to tackle the shortages in the cancer care workforce, this crisis is set to get worse. The Government must put forward a fully funded plan to increase the number of staff and train the future cancer workforce.

Our CEO, Angela Culhane has signed a letter to the Prime Minister, Chancellor and Secretary of State, adding: “Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men, and damages bodies and lives. Championing the needs of those who are impacted by a prostate cancer diagnosis is at the heart of all our work. That’s why we stand proudly alongside 50 other cancer charities, and #OneCancerVoice to sign this letter to Government with an urgent call to deliver commitments to improve cancer survival and care in this country.”

The government must:

  • grow the cancer workforce and invest in equipment to meet patient need and drive innovation to provide better care;
  • level-up on cancer to address socio-economic factors which mean poorer communities are disproportionately affected by cancer, and;
  • strengthen investment in cancer research and development.

This investment is vital to deliver the ambitions in the NHS Long Term Plan and meet the needs of cancer patients today and in the future so that every patient has the best chance of survival.
