Fizzy drinks like cola and lemonade can irritate the bladder. If you want a cold drink, try drinking water or diluted fruit juices.
Caffeinated drinks such as tea, coffee, green tea and cola can irritate the bladder, so it’s best to avoid them when you can. If you want a hot drink, why not try decaffeinated tea and coffee, or herbal teas like mint, camomile or rooibos tea?
Alcohol can irritate the bladder, and make you need to urinate more often and urgently, so it’s best to avoid it when you can. Try drinking water or diluted fruit juice instead.
Some men find that drinking cranberry juice can help with their radiation cystitis. However there is limited evidence that this works.
Try to drink plenty of fluids, around 1.5-2 litres or 3-4 pints a day.
