Surgery can cause urinary problems. The most common urinary problem men can get after surgery is leaking urine. And a small number of men may find it difficult to urinate after surgery.

External beam radiotherapy and brachytherapy can cause urinary problems. These include bladder irritation, needing to urinate more often, a sudden urge to urinate and difficulty urinating. Some men may leak urine after radiotherapy, but this is less common.
