How to set to set up your Facebook fundraising page

Check out our Facebook Fundraising guide for top tips on how to set up your page and start raising those all important pennies that will help bring us closer to a world where men can live long and live well.

How to make the most of your fundraiser

Tell your story

If you have a connection to prostate cancer or a personal reason for supporting Prostate Cancer UK, be sure to tell everyone about it if you’re comfortable doing so. By sharing your story, your friends, family and supporters will be more likely to donate generously to your fundraiser.

You can share your story in the description of your fundraiser, or update people in the comments on why you’re supporting Prostate Cancer UK (see guidance on how to do this in our Facebook Fundraising guide).

Ask generous friends and family first

Once your page is set up, ask a generous friend or family member to make the first donation (or make the first donation yourself!). Studies have shown that people tend to match existing donations on the page.

Tell people why they should support your fundraiser

Why should they care? We think these statistics say it all. Share these in your fundraiser’s description or post on your fundraiser and let your supporters know why their support is so important.

  • 1 in 8 men in the UK will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime.
  • The risk is even higher for black men and men with a family history of prostate cancer.
  • Every 45 minutes one man dies from prostate cancer – that's more than 12,000 men every year.
  • Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men.

Thank your supporters

Make sure you say thank you to your generous friends and family publicly on your timeline and tag them into the post. That way all your friends see it, as well as theirs, which could inspire and remind others to donate too and help the 1 in 8 men affected by prostate cancer.

Share posts on your fundraiser – especially videos

Videos are a great way of grabbing people’s attention, getting across lots of information and making people feel connected to the cause. Here’s some of our videos you can share on your fundraiser:

All you need to do is copy the link and paste it into a comment in your fundraiser.

Regular reminders

Keep your contacts updated with how you’re doing. If you’re closer to your target, your birthday’s in a few days, or if you’ve just completed an amazing trial run for the marathon or – tell them about it!

After your fundraiser

Let people know where the money they’ve helped to raise goes and don’t forget to tell your friends and family what their support means to you and how much you appreciate it. Together, you are helping to fund lifesaving research and provide vital support to men and their families affected by prostate cancer. Thank you!
