Lewis's Club to Club March
Lewis Twydle, 25, and his friend George Harris 25, were inspired by Jeff Stelling’s March to set up their own.
The pair walked from Tottenham Hotspur's stadium in White Hart Lane to the Watford FC hub on Vicarage Road via Stamford Bridge in the hopes of raising £1,000 for Prostate Cancer UK.
Lewis wore his Watford colours on the 28 mile route, while George, from Dorset, showed his support for Chelsea FC.
Why did you decide to take part and do your own walk?
I saw that Jeff Stelling was doing a series of walks for Prostate Cancer UK, and it inspired me and my mate George – we’re both big football fans and wanted to do something for charity. Prostate cancer affects so many men so we knew that our walk would be for a decent cause.
How long was your route, and why did you pick it?
We walked 28 miles. I’m a Watford fan and George is a Chelsea fan, so we based our route on this. We know Jeff didn’t stop at our clubs this year, which is why we decided to do our own walk. I had a look at other clubs in the area and based our route around that.
Did you do any fundraising?
We set up a JustGiving page and our aim was to raise £1,000 – we’ve beaten that target by over £100 which is great. Watford FC has helped us too by promoting our walk on their website and George and I have been shouting about it on social media, mainly on our Facebook and Instagram pages. Our friends and family have been really generous so far!
What would you like to say to anyone thinking about doing an event like this?
It’s so easy to set up your own walk. I just used Google maps on my iPhone and planned out our route.
I’d also say that you should definitely get a mate to do it with you, it keeps you motivated. George is my best mate so we had a laugh whilst also supporting a good cause!
