Dr David Montgomery joined us as Executive Director of Research in March 2019.
David brings with him substantial clinical and research experience across many areas of cancer. He initially trained as a general surgeon in the West of Scotland. He conducted his research into ways of improving quality of care for women following breast cancer. He then moved to the pharmaceutical industry where he spent 11 years in increasingly senior positions within the medical department at Pfizer oncology in both UK and global roles, and was involved with launches of medicines across multiple cancer types.
In addition to his role in Pfizer, David chaired the oncology medical directors’ forum at the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI), sat as the industry representative on the national Cancer Drugs Fund (CDF) panel and as the industry representative on the National Cancer Research Initiative (NCRI) annual meeting scientific committee. In November 2019 he was awarded the Global Fellow in Medicine Development by the International Federation of Associations of Pharmaceutical Physicians and Pharmaceutical Medicine.
David is married to Katherine, a breast surgeon at the Royal Marsden Hospital, and they have two children. When his children give him permission, David enjoys riding both road and mountain bikes (not at the same time).
