Provision across the UK

In January 2014, we commissioned some qualitative research to find out more about the types of wellbeing services that are available to men with prostate cancer. The research highlights that while men are experiencing psychological distress, depression and anxiety throughout their prostate cancer journey, there is a need for greater and more consistent provision of wellbeing support services across the UK in order to meet men’s care needs.

The aims of the research were to:

  • Develop an indicative ‘map’ of existing services that support the wellbeing of men with prostate cancer
  • Determine whether there are gaps in those services based on either geographical or social factors
  • Determine how accessible these services are – especially for harder to reach groups
  • Define the nature of the providers providing these wellbeing services, e.g. NHS and the voluntary and community sectors
