After raising an unbelievable £800k for us on two epic walks, Sky Sports supremo Jeff Stelling is taking a well-earned break this year. But he’s fully behind our new Football March for Men, and hopes fans will take on the marathon-length walk to Wembley in July to continue the fight against the most common cancer in men.
After walking an incredible 260 miles from his hometown Hartlepool to Wembley in 2016, Soccer Saturday legend Jeff Stelling upped that distance by a third when he completed 15 marathon-length walks in 15 gruelling days the year after – raising more than £800k for us as he went. So you'd forgive the great man for taking a year off.
But Jeff certainly hasn't quit the fight against prostate cancer. While he plans another big fundraising challenge for us in 2019, he's urging people to sign up to this year's Football March for Men and undertake one of four marathon-length walks from football clubs across the South East to Wembley stadium on Sunday 22 July.
"We need to step up and change the game for men and their loved ones," says Jeff. "And joining one of the marathon football jaunts is the perfect way to do this."
Starting at either West Ham, Milwall, St Albans City or Sutton United, the 26-mile treks will take in a total of 15 football clubs before they converge on the home of English football for a spectacular pitch-side finale. With each walker committed to raising £300, and star managers and players from the clubs involved getting on board, it's hoped Jeff's extraordinary fundraising legacy will be continued.
"I’ve met men and their families affected by this devastating disease, and I’ve also met those scientists helping to inspire change," says Jeff.
"The substantial sums raised by the Football March for Men will help shift the science and crack the three core issues of diagnosis, treatment and prevention, which have been left unsolved for too long, as well as providing support and information.
"That’s why we march again in 2018."
Make Jeff proud! Find out more and book your place now on our Football March for Men on Sunday 22 July.
