WilliamRussellMovemberWilliam Russell is contemplating his upper lip, it’s going to be the focus of much attention over the next few weeks. As the new Chairman of Prostate Cancer UK, William will be leading the Board of Trustees through his Movember team (The Chairmen 6) and hoping to surpass the £23,851 raised by the team last year, lead by former Chairman Paul Forster. It’s a tough challenge, but one the Alderman of the City of London is relishing.

“The City of London always takes Movember to heart. As Alderman, I spend a lot of time in the city, and you can’t walk more than 10 meters during November without bumping into someone sporting a moustache. I’m proud to be taking part again this year and leading the Prostate Cancer UK team”

Movember not only raises money for Prostate Cancer UK (last year £16.8 million) but helps raise awareness of prostate cancer and men’s health. It’s a win win as William explains.

“Every time you see a man walking around with a moustache during November, he’s not only raising funds but raising awareness. The humble Mo has become a call to arms for men (and women) in the UK to get a grip with men’s health. Prostate cancer kills 10,000 men in the UK every year. Over 40,000 men are diagnosed with it and 250,000 are currently living with the disease. The awareness that Movember brings each year raises the profile of this mounting problem, and helps Prostate Cancer UK build and maintain a movement for men.”

William Russell outsideFor William, the chance to take the reins as Chairman of Prostate Cancer UK was too good an opportunity to pass up.

“Before my appointment as Chairman of Prostate Cancer UK, I was a Trustee of the charity for five years, following 19 years working in the city. It’s just such an obvious cause to support and fight for. Breast cancer charities have led the way in driving awareness and funding research, now it’s time for us to lead the charge against prostate cancer. We’ve been successfully doing just that for a number of years and I relish the challenge of upping our game.”
