Why we funded it
It is not currently possible to predict which cases of newly
diagnosed prostate cancer will go on to cause symptoms, and
immediate radical treatment for all cases is a standard approach.
Biomarkers that accurately predict the course of individual cases
would enable radical treatment to be given promptly to those men
who need it, and the side effects of treatment to be avoided for
those men who do not.
Scientific title
A biopsy TMA analysis of biomarkers of prostate cancer
behaviour
Research project summary
Indicators, or 'biomarkers', of prostate cancer behaviour will
be measured in biopsy samples from several hundred men with
prostate cancer. To better understand which biomarkers can best
predict how prostate cancer develops, the results will be analysed
with respect to the rate of disease progression.
