Wednesday 27 to Sunday 31 July saw over 1,000 players and 10,000
spectators descend on Ayr for The Prostate Cancer Charity Bowls
Scotland Championships 2011.
As official charity partner for the event, The Prostate Cancer
Charity hosted an awareness stand on each day of the championships.
Stands were staffed by volunteers who distributed more than 500
pieces of awareness raising literature. Collections also
raised an impressive £1,500.
The championships are part of a year long partnership with Bowls
Scotland, which gives the Charity the opportunity to reach over 900
bowling clubs and their 90,000 members - who are well fitted to out
target demographic.
In addition to the positive awareness and fund raising outcomes,
the championships also led to significant media coverage for the
Charity, with key national and regional Scottish newspapers
covering the results on a daily basis. The event also made
waves in the Scottish Parliament as local MSP, Joan McAlpine,
tabled a motion congratulating the Charity and Bowls Scotland on
the success of the championships and the ongoing partnership.
