Racing Post are proud to
launch a ground-breaking partnership with The Prostate Cancer
Charity for 2012. This is the first time that the daily news
and betting paper will align itself with a charity in the hope of
raising £100,000 over the course of 2012.
With an average daily readership of
50,000 and a primarily male audience, Racing Post will be calling
on all staff and readers to get involved in the fight against
prostate cancer with a variety of fundraising events and individual
challenges over the course of the year,
including the Virgin London Marathon and Movember.
Bruce Millington, editor of the
Racing Post commented: "We are proud to announce the partnership
with The Prostate Cancer Charity for 2012. Both the racing and
sporting worlds have lost many great individuals to this disease
and we hope that by linking up we will not only be able to provide
some valuable exposure about the disease itself but also raise much
needed funds for those living with prostate cancer.
"Almost all of us know of someone
who has been affected and every penny the Racing Post raises will
go towards improving the lives of the men and their families living
with the disease. There are obvious synergies between our own
readers and the charity and therefore the partnership seems not
only meaningful but logical too."
Michael Owen, international
footballer and racehorse owner added: "Most of us know someone, or
someone's partner, who has been affected by prostate cancer and it
is important for men to be aware of the disease, because awareness
makes early diagnosis more likely. Fund raising is also important
and I welcome the Racing Post's adoption of The Prostate Cancer
Charity as its charity for 2012 and wish the initiative well."
Owen Sharp, chief executive of The
Prostate Cancer Charity added: "The odds of a man getting prostate
cancer are 9:1, and with one man dying every hour we are extremely
grateful for the Racing Post's support in raising awareness of this
killer disease, in turn helping to save men's lives. With the
support and donations of readers we are hopeful that the
partnership will raise both awareness and vital funds for research,
campaigns and the Charity's support services, directly helping
those affected by the disease.
"In the UK alone 250,000 men are
living with prostate cancer, which hits husbands, partners,
brothers and dads 'out of the blue' every year. Despite this, many
people are unaware that it is the most common cancer in men.
Throughout Prostate Cancer
Awareness Month in March, we are urging readers of the Racing
Post to show their support by simply texting to donate. Please help
us and the 37,000 men diagnosed each year in the race against
prostate cancer."
To get the ball rolling in the race against prostate cancer, the
Racing Post is asking readers to donate £1 this month via the text
to donate service, and is asking that you too make The Prostate
Cancer Charity your Charity for 2012.
