On Wednesday 20th June Billy Lamb from BBC 1's prime time
drama Silk was diagnosed with prostate cancer. Writer of the
series, Peter Moffat, has spoken of when prostate cancer touched
his family and why he feels it is so important to raise awareness
of the disease.
Peter said: "When I found out my Dad had prostate cancer I was
mentally in shock. I couldn't take it in and, like many men, I knew
nothing about it. I didn't know who to turn to so I called The
Prostate Cancer Charity's helpline which was one of the best things
I did. The nurses had the time to talk to me, and they really,
really helped me and my family get through.
"Unfortunately my father passed away after a long battle with
the disease, but as a result of this entire experience I felt
compelled to include this issue in my writing. It is so important
to raise awareness of this, the most common cancer in men, so that
hopefully in the future fewer men like my father lose their life to
the disease."
