Iceland Foods and The Prostate Cancer Charity 'teed' up for
success at the retailer's annual Charity Amateur Golf Classic day.
More than 250 suppliers, playing in teams of four, enjoyed a day of
golf, followed by a Gala Dinner, which was attended by over 340
guests, raising more than £100,000 for the leading men's health
charity.
The event, now in its nineteenth year, took place at Carden Park
Hotel, Cheshire and begun with a challenging day of golf which saw
teams from a number of leading companies take part, including
McCains, Proctor & Gamble UK and Arla Foods. Suppliers not only
participated in the Golf Day, but also supported Iceland Foods
through sponsorship alone.
The day, which was the third held in support of the Charity, was
topped off by a fabulous formal Gala Dinner, on 8th September. Following a Champagne
reception, guests were given the opportunity to bid for a wealth of
'money can't buy' experiences in a live interactive auction. Lots
on offer ranged from an array of sporting experiences from a box at
Manchester United, tickets to the British Grand Prix to quirky lots
such as afternoon tea at Claridges with Stacey Solomon. The evening
concluded with entertainment from top comedian Jason Manford.
Malcolm Walker, Chief Executive at Iceland, said: "We would like
to extend a big 'thank you' to everyone involved with the event,
which raised such a tremendous amount of money for The Prostate
Cancer Charity. As always, it was a fabulous day, and Iceland is
delighted to continue its support for the excellent work that the
Charity does for those suffering from the most common cancer among
men in the UK."
Mark Bishop, Director of Fundraising
at The Prostate Cancer Charity, said: "The Iceland Charity Amateur
Golf Classic is such a fantastic event, and we're thrilled to have
been a part of it. Every year in the UK, 37,000 men are diagnosed
with prostate cancer and the money raised by Iceland will go
towards helping these men, as well as investing in research in
prostate cancer. On behalf of everyone at the Charity, I would like
to thank everyone involved for such a sizeable contribution to our
work."
