The Great Weston Ride, a 56-mile West Country challenge bike
ride taking place on Sunday 15th July, has teamed up with North
Somerset premium meat producers and event caterers,
field&flower, to give riders something to really look forward
to at the end of this year's Ride.
This popular and fast-growing cycling challenge takes
participants along a spectacular route through the Mendips and
across the Somerset Levels before finishing on the seafront in
Weston-super-Mare, and this summer as a reward for their efforts
hungry riders will be greeted with delicious, locally-produced hot
gourmet food when they cross the finish line.
Darren McKimm, Ride Organiser, explained: "We're always looking
to improve the Ride and to add value for those taking part, and
it's all about trying to give everyone a quality experience and a
great day out."
Set up in 2010, field&flower are based on their own farm in
the Gordano Valley in North Somerset and they source the very best
meat from their own and other local Somerset farms, and they now
deliver their premium farm produce all over the UK.
Co-founder James Mansfield commented: "As soon as we heard about
the Great Weston Ride we wanted to get involved. We've catered at
the likes of Glastonbury and the V Festival but this is a great
event taking place right on our doorstep, and we're really looking
forward to feeding hundreds of hungry riders at the finish."
The Ride itself attracts riders of all abilities, with something
to offer experienced cyclists and novices alike, and it has had
rave reviews from participants in its first two years. The Ride has
also helped to raise significant sums for charity - there is no
obligation to fundraise, but in 2011 riders raised £22,000 for the
Ride's official charity partner, The Prostate Cancer Charity, and
well over £30,000 in total across a range of different
charities.
