than 600 people attended Prostate Cancer UK's Carols by Candlelight
concert at St Paul's Church in Knightsbridge last night (Wednesday
5 December), raising thousands of pounds to fight the disease in
the process.
The evening was packed with a range of seasonal carols and
readings by celebrity supporters, including Doctor Who's Jemma
Redgrave, Eastenders' Rudolph Walker OBE and Silk's Neil Stuke.
Mince pies and mulled wine were served on arrival at the
beautifully decorated and lit venue, and Father Stephen Young led
the concert with Paul Forster, Chairman of Prostate Cancer UK,
making a festive speech. The Concordia Scholars choir performed a
range of well-known and traditional songs.
£17,700 was raised through ticket sales and donations on the
evening, which will help the charity to support men, find answers
and lead change in the battle against prostate cancer. For the
eighth year in a row Lazard Asset Management kindly sponsored the
event.
Mark Bishop, Director of Fundraising at Prostate Cancer UK,
said: "The carol concert was a great success with well over 600
people attending. A set of traditional carols were sung and there
were some lovely readings from our fantastic celebrity
supporters.
"The evening was an excellent opportunity to engage with
supporters old and new, whilst raising funds for and awareness of
the most common cancer in men. The success of this
evening means we end the year on a real high in terms of our
public fundraising events, and I thank and congratulate everyone
involved in making this the case."
