Your treatment options will depend on whether the cancer is
still contained in the prostate, or has spread outside the
prostate.
Localised prostate cancer is cancer that is contained within the
prostate. You may hear it called early or organ-confined prostate
cancer.
Locally advanced prostate cancer is cancer that is breaking
through the capsule of the prostate, or has spread to the area just
outside the prostate.
Advanced prostate cancer is cancer that has spread from the
prostate gland to other parts of the body. It is also called
'metastatic' prostate cancer.
It is up to you how much you want to be involved in choosing
your treatment. Talk to your doctor or nurse about your options.
They should talk to you about all treatment options even if they
are not all available at your local hospital. You can also call our
Specialist Nurses.
You can bring someone along to your appointments if you want to.
It can be hard to take everything in, so it can be helpful to have
someone else to listen or make notes for you.
