My experience
"I was a fit, active non-smoker when I was diagnosed with
prostate cancer at the age of 58. I was stunned. I couldn't
understand why it was me. My brother-in-law had died from the
disease 14 years earlier, but I thought it was an unlucky one off.
I thought if I had prostate cancer, I would know about it. I was
wrong on both points. I had surgery to remove the cancer in 2009
and since my recovery I have been working to help others learn from
my experience."
What I'm doing now
"In 2010, I decided to sail solo around the UK to raise
awareness and to raise money. Apart from my experience with
prostate cancer, it was the biggest challenge of my life but it was
worth it. It's so important to make more men aware of this disease.
That's why I donated the £10,000 raised on the voyage, to Prostate
Cancer UK to support their tireless campaigning across the UK."
