Event volunteer | Fundraising London 23 April 2017
London marathon volunteers

Background

The London Marathon is the largest annual fundraising event on the planet - runners have raised over £830 million for good causes since the race began in 1981. This year we will have a team of over 200 runners taking part and raising funds for men with prostate cancer.

How you can help

We need enthusiastic volunteers to help at our supporter points. This is a fantastic way to experience the excitement of race day and support the people taking part!

You will be:

  • Spotting our runners, encouraging them and cheering them along the course
  • Handing out sweets to give them a boost as they complete the run
  • Welcoming them back at the post race reception where we will thank them for their support and get to hear about their experiences and motivations

We'll be holding 3 cheer points along the course where we will be looking for volunteer support:

  1. Supporter Zones 1 and 3 - St George in the East Church, The Highway
  2. Supporter Zone 2 - Mudchute DRL station, East Ferry Road

We are also looking for volunteers to help our weary athletes at our afterparty at the RSA, 8 John Adam Street, London WC2N 6EZ.

You can either volunteer alone or with friends – there will be lots of other volunteers and staff there on the day to ensure you have a great time. No previous experience is needed but you will need to be friendly, positive and energetic.

What you will get from volunteering

You will be able to:

  • Learn about the charity
  • Gain organisational and communication skills
  • Experience working on one the highest profile sporting events in the world with a fun and friendly team
  • Claim travel expenses within London
  • Meet other volunteers and staff
