Event volunteer Newcastle 11 September 2016

The Great North Run is firmly established as the world's greatest half marathon. Starting in Newcastle, the course takes in the iconic Tyne Bridge, goes through Gateshead passing the famous international athletics stadium and finishes in the coastal town of South Shields. It's an excitement-packed day for runners and spectators alike.

We are looking for a cheering squad of 15 volunteers to be on the course from 10am to 2pm, and another 5 volunteers at the charity village from 11am to 4:30pm.

How can you help?

We're looking for volunteers to come along and be part of our cheering squad to help spur our runners on to the end of the run. You'll be on the course, shouting encouragement, waving and cheering at our runners as they pass by.

At the charity village, we'll also need volunteers to welcome our runners back, make refreshments, chat to the runners' friends and family, and help show our gratitude for their sterling efforts to raise funds for Prostate Cancer UK.

What you'll get from volunteering

  • A chance to be part of one the country's most prestigious sporting events
  • A fun day out
  • An opportunity to be right amongst all the action
  • The satisfaction of working together as part of a team for a great cause
