In 2013, our Sledgehammer fund had men and women across the
country raising money for us to help crack prostate cancer and
raise awareness of this awful disease.
Bill
Bailey kicked off the broadcast campaign on 1 January, swiftly
followed by impressionist Jon Culshaw
with some spoof betting adverts. As a result, we saw significantly
more visits to our website looking for information, more donations
flooding in, and much more coverage of prostate cancer in the
media.
The final month of the campaign was March: Prostate Cancer
Awareness Month.
'March is for men,' and once again we want to give a huge
thank-you to our partner Marks and Spencer.
M&S has proudly supported
Prostate Cancer UK for seven years, raising nearly £1.7million to
support our helpline, giving men diagnosed with a prostate problem
unlimited time to talk over treatment options with one of our
Specialist Nurses. During March 2013, M&S sold pin badges
and key rings at till points, and donated 10 per cent from sales of
Autograph men's underwear. Their staff also fundraised in-store,
doing all sorts of funny things for money.
Prostate Cancer Awareness Month is over, but there are still a
lot of ways you can get involved and help wake up the nation to
prostate cancer:
Spread the word
Order free
information about prostate cancer, and hand out leaflets or put
up posters in your community.
Raise funds to crack prostate cancer
It's time to fight back and help
more men survive. You can help us crack prostate cancer by fundraising in a range of fantastic events.
Choose to run or cycle, trek, host a tea party, or even skydive and
we'll support you in your fundraising efforts. Find an event that suits you.
Help us improve care for men
We're campaigning to get our Quality
Checklist adopted by the NHS across the UK. The checklist describes
the care and support men with prostate cancer should expect to
receive at every stage of their diagnosis and treatment. Together
we can help ensure all men in the UK receive good quality prostate
cancer care. Contact your politicians to ask for their
support.
Remember a loved one with an In Memory Tribute Fund
You can now set up an online In
Memory Tribute Fund to commemorate a loved one who has passed away,
allowing family and friends to share memories in words, pictures,
music and even video. Find out more about setting up a fund.
However you choose to lend your support, thank you for helping us
wake up the nation to a disease that kills 10,000 men every
year.
