Saxon Classic 2015

Join us for a stunning ride on the Suffolk coastline designed to show you the best of the English countryside. As a naturally flat part of the UK, the Suffolk coast makes brilliant riding for people new to cycling as well as a great route for making some really fast times.

The 2015 ride takes place on Sunday 28 June, with three different distances to choose from:

50 km - for those looking for their first cycle challenge. Registration fee: £18 + £50 sponsorship / £30 Sportive entry

100 km - a challenging distance for those looking to push themselves a little bit further. Registration fee: £28 + £50 sponsorship / £45 Sportive entry

160 km - the full distance for seasoned riders pushing themselves to the limit. Registration fee: £28 + £50 sponsorship / £45 Sportive entry

You can select the fundraiser option and raise just £50 to help more men survive prostate cancer and enjoy a better quality of life. There's also the sportive option, which has no fundraising target but includes a donation to Prostate Cancer UK in the fee.

All routes start and finish at Ipswich Rugby Club.

Registration opens soon, so if you are interested in taking part email and we’ll be in touch as soon registration opens so you can be the first to sign up.

One 2014 rider, Mark Pritchard shares his story here:

“It’s 8am at Christchurch Park, Ipswich and a solitary Anglo-Saxon soldier stands guard at the start line. A short final briefing from a marshal, and the inaugural Prostate Cancer UK Saxon Classic Sportive is underway. I’m soon in the countryside and heading for the coast. There’s a real sense of history as I pass places like Sutton Hoo, Orford and Dunwich. I then head inland before turning south for the ride back to Ipswich. The sun’s out and the leafy lanes provide some welcome shade. Along the route there are small groups of people cheering the riders on. All too soon I’m back in Christchurch Park where a great crowd of lively spectators is there to welcome us.

How can I sum up the Saxon Classic? Great route, great scenery, great organisation and a great cause. I was riding for two friends who have prostate cancer and I could feel them smiling down and sustaining me.  Oh; one question – when do entries open for 2015? I will definitely be back…..”
