On 19 March 2010, during Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, people
across the UK took action to improve prostate cancer support
services in their area. The aim of the campaign was to raise
awareness of the support services that men with prostate cancer
need and to find out whether these services are being provided
locally.
Campaign Progress
- Over 550 emails and letters were sent to parliamentarians,
parliamentary candidates and healthcare providers. Over a hundred
responses were received from parliamentarians or parliamentary
candidates, 62 of whom took action. Twelve healthcare providers
responded
- One campaigner had a meeting with his local Primary Care Trust
and as a result has been invited to sit on a group as a patient
representative to highlight the concerns of men with prostate
cancer at regular meetings
- As the result of a media story placed in the Manchester Evening
News by a campaigner, John Leech MP tabled an Early Day Motion
(EDM) raising concerns that men receive inadequate support to help
them cope with prostate cancer. It has now been signed by 66 MPs.
